I set out to make this site accurate, useful, and clearly sourced on the subject of hip replacement. This page explains how that happens, and why a site written by a patient still leans on a surgeon’s review.
Whose words, and whose check
The experience here is mine, written in the first person by me, Haidee Marsh, after my own total hip replacement. Because I am not a clinician, a surgeon reads every article that carries a clinical claim before it goes live. The two jobs stay apart by design: I carry the lived experience, the surgeon safeguards the accuracy. When a piece has been through review, it names the reviewer, lists their credentials, and gives the date the check was done. My current reviewer is Ms Priya Raman, MS (Orth), FRCS (Tr&Orth).
What I research from
My research rests on international, evidence-based sources rather than the guidance of any one country: the World Health Organization, the OARSI recommendations for osteoarthritis management, Cochrane systematic reviews, national and regional joint registries (which follow how long implants actually last), and the peer-reviewed orthopaedic literature. Any number I put in print, implant survival, complication rates, recovery times, comes with a reference at the end of the piece.
Plain about outcomes
Hip replacement is among the more dependable joint operations, but it is not flawless, and a minority of people are left with lasting trouble or come to need further surgery. I state outcomes plainly, the disappointing ones included, so readers can plan around the real picture rather than a polished one.
Keeping it current
I return to published articles on a regular cycle and rework them as clinical guidance and registry data move on. On each one you will find when it was published and, where there has been one, the date of the latest revision or fresh review.
Independence, and corrections
No one pays me to steer readers toward a surgeon, hospital, or implant, and I name no provider at all. Catch an error and the Contact page will reach me; I will look into it without delay.
